Innovation Week 2023: Renewable solutions to decarbonise end-use sectors
IRENA Innovation Week 2023 took place in Bonn during 25-28 September 2023 under the theme “Renewable solutions to decarbonise end-use sectors”. It aimed to both inspire and inform decision-makers by showcasing emerging renewable-based solutions from around the world and by exploring the actions needed to fully unlock the potential of renewables in the end-use sectors.
The event brought together more than 300 participants from more than 70 countries, including policymakers, innovators, industry experts and academia.
The event was built on previous editions in 2016 and 2018 which examined the decarbonisation of power systems and the integration of variable renewable energy, and the 2020 edition (held virtually) that discussed prospects for decarbonising transport and industry. This fourth edition broadened the discussion on decarbonising end-use sectors and was informed by IRENA’s recent flagship report Innovation landscape for Smart Electrification. The digital, interactive version of this report was launched at Innovation Week, as the Innovation Toolbox for smart electrification.
